Roll on Mt Gambier!

Success! I'm going to the National Limestone Symposium at the Old Mount Gambier Gaol in February... and looking forward to working with some softer stone.

Mt Gambier Limestone Sculpture Symposium

Expressions of interest close today for the national Limestone Sculpture Symposium in Mount Gambier in February 2009.

So here's my choice of images to submit. I've included my Billy Hughes bust, Margaret Scott's memorial bench (including a close up) and a couple of one from my hermit shell series.

Fingers crossed.

Billy Hughes Bust

Working on my first bust was a great challenge...and I'm pleased with what I achieved in 7 days. Rhyl's pointers were welcomed and here's the result.

Thanks to all the organisers, promoters and the Southern Downs Regional Council for purchasing it! I believe it will be stationed on the train platform in Warwick, where as history tells:
'There was a degree of violence unusual in Australian politics, which turned to farce when Hughes, after being struck by an egg on the railway station at Warwick, Queensland, promptly established a Commonwealth police force to combat disloyalty.' para 22

Symposium update

Well it's 5 days in to the workshop now and am tackling my first bust in sandstone. Great experience and inspiration being here among other stone lovers. Photos of the group works are located on the Sculpture Symposium site

Looking forward to Mt Gambier in February.

Success - it's off to Warwick I go

I received the good news that I've been selected as one of 20 participating artists in the 2008 Bio Concepts Southern Downs Sculpture Symposium. It's 9 days over a fortnight in July ending 27th, when work can be purchased.
There'll be five guest artists as well.

So now to think on the tales of the Condamine River theme and getting up there.

Margaret Scott's Memorial Bench

My favourite of the benches. It's a fabulous view out over the water at Premaydena. Vale Margaret.
